Advocacy for the Disabled

He passed from hospital to hospital, admitted months at a time from a rare cancer, he couldn't eat.  He was not suicidal, he was desperate to live and took my offer to get him more time, to advocate for him with the hospital administration.  He authorized me to share these photos of him to social media to get the ball rolling.

The last hospital in line wrote him off as well, I was there when they said he could die at any moment and recommended hospice.  I called the hospital administrator I said I was an advocate for the disabled, I already spoke with an attorney, that when he dies a wrongful death suit would be filed by the family against every hospital to deny him a feeding tube.

Dad got his feeding tube.

Today, I suppose Unum is different from the same company I had the misfortune of battling back in 2004-2007. I'll assume they are an upstanding, fine company now looking out for the best interests of their customers, but back then, that was different from my experience.

I gave them hell, and it's all in black and white; some people committed suicide, I read, lost their houses, and from what I was told, UNUM fired their CEO, and just like that UNUM was forced to change their opinions and treat people fairly. It feels to me like history is repeating itself again with a different Corporate Giant who gave me a ride on their head sled, and pinball machine flipper ricochet.

I wrote a song inspired by those difficult times called Pain It Stains, but I never finished it. I just put it in archives and went on with my life when they rebranded their name, some say because it went down the toilet; but low and behold, my new, old song, lol, just scratch surprisingly charted in its first phase of refinements. I mean it only had a click track. Last it was worked on going on a couple decades ago Rick Leos dropped some electric backing tracks and some lead ideas. Rick's brother Mark did a bass run or two, but not too prominent in the mix; it was basically just a runway for coming up with the leads, and then shorten it up.

All these years later, I've uploaded it to SoundClick again, inspired by my recovery ahead. This is one of the first songs on my plate to get finished for another Album, inspired by an #explodingHeadrest.

If Ever Finished Book chapter- Advocacy for Vets;

When I was producing and co-hosting the Voice of Veterans on NBC1260 Phoenix, we did a remote at the Clairon. A group of vets talked about PTSD and the war in Iraq, and some of the photos on the YouTube video were donated to me to use by some of the guests on the show, that's a little back story to how that version of my scratch song soldier boy was made into a video, What a great honor it was to receive all those photos.

Constitutional Law Professor Steve Gonzalez, who I really enjoyed conversing with on episodes of the show, was there as well, he was unveiling a new free program for Veterans' legal issues, coming back from war they sometimes found themselves needing advice.

The broadcast ended with my Video, Soldier Boy, which I'll drop a link to in the comment section. I was worn out big time from all that went into the remote. The entire stage, trussing, backdrop, and everything else on the production was my production company at the time. I hired out the cameramen and lighting crew. One person who isn't in the video is my buddy Boon. He is the one who started VOV and after his departure, I wasn't far behind; after I left the show, I don't know how long it stayed on the air, but I'm proud of the work I did there.

My advocacy didn't stop. I was going to get a show going called L.ove-A.rt-W.ar & Politics. I still have the first episodes in the can with never-released interviews with Boon, a vet named Belch, vet Bob, an old ww2 navy vet, and stories of those who are not here with us anymore that need to be heard. At that time, behind the scenes, I was having some setbacks some opportunities in the music industry I had to forego, but I forged ahead, still contributing to society at my own pace. I was advancing the direction of Cannabis advocacy for the treatment of PTSD and chronic pain; veterans were and still are fearful of losing their VA benefits for its Medical use.

In due time, and with some help from some friends, I'll get more accomplished.
